EINLADUNG - The Lure of Syria: Working with Mothers for Strategies and Solutions

Eine Diskussionsveranstaltung mit Müttern, deren Söhne und Töchter in den Jihad gezogen sind

09.12.2014  18:00
Media Tower, Meeting Point 15. Stock, Taborstrasse 1-3, 1020 Wien

Women without Borders / SAVE, the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection and the U.S. Embassy Vienna invite you to an extraordinary panel presentation featuring the testimonies of mothers whose sons and daughters became radicalized and chose to travel to Syria. These mothers, who have lived through an experience inaccessible to many others involved in the prevention of violent extremism, are uniting in Vienna to share their stories in person for the first time.

In bravely speaking out, the mothers translate their shattering experience into a way forward – to support each other and heighten global awareness. They pave the way for other struggling families to break the silence and stigmatization and instead to respond more effectively to safeguard their children from the lure of violent ideologies and their recruiters.

This will be a unique opportunity to hear mothers’ voices speaking out against violent extremism, as new allies in a new security architecture.

Welcome: Edit Schlaffer, Founder and Director of Women without Borders

Opening remarks:
Mr. Rudolf Hundstorfer, Austrian Minister for Labour, Social Affairs’ and Consumer Protection
Eric K. Lundberg, Counselor for Economic and Political Affairs, U.S. Embassy, Vienna

Please RSVP to office@women-without-borders.org

We look forward to seeing you!
Edit Schlaffer and the Women without Borders / SAVE Team
