On May 10th, 2012, The International Centre for the Study of Radicalization (ICSR) hosted Founder and Executive Director of Women without Borders/SAVE, Dr. Edit Schlaffer, in an event entitled "Peace from the Bottom Up: Ideas and Approaches from the Middle East".
The conference also featured Yossi Mekelberg of the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House. Yossi is also the Director of the International Relations and Social Sciences Programme at Webster University and is on the board of the Middle East Economic Forum and the London Committee of Human Rights Watch.
Dr. Schlaffer discussed Sisters Against Violent Extremism's work in the Middle East, particulary Israel and Palestine, where SAVE interviewed more than 30 mothers from both sides of the conflict last February.
SAVE believes bringing these mothers together will encourage them to relate on a human level. This unlikely dialogue also empowers them to stand up against violent extremism, and become agents of reconciliation and peace-building.
